Morning, all. Woke up to see that mstdn.social have defederated from .art, immediately, without the usual grace period for people to figure out connections:

https://mstdn.social/@stux/110567613442600729

From what I can tell this is about us mentioning Universeodon's meeting with Meta in one of the reasons we're defederating from them. Stux also seems to think we're 'scraping fedi' - we're not. We block people who make scrapers.

Screenshot from mstdn.social's blocklist with the mastodon.art entry, and the reason given is 'Admin with an sketchy agenda'.
It looks like mstdn.social don't have authorised fetch enabled, which means we can all still see their accounts and posts from here, but they can't see us. You can reply to their posts but they will never see those replies. I'm talking with our team about maybe adding mstdn.social to our block list since we *do* have auth fetch enabled and that will make it a cleaner and less confusing block for our users.

Any follow relationships you had with people on that instance will have been un-done.
To clarify .art's position on the Meta meetings: we did not assume that they were discussing a takeover or a buyout. We know that's not the case. We *did* see, before our announcement about Universeodon, that they were talks under NDA about Meta onboarding their own platform into the Fediverse. We still don't want Meta here and we distrust any admins who chose to speak with Meta about 'a fediverse presence', no matter what form that takes, under NDA.
We're no longer blocked by mstdn.social, but I don't know if that's subject to change. Unfortunately, when an instance suspends another instance, all follow/follower relationships are immediately broken and aren't recovered by un-suspending, so you will have to find and re-follow your connections there.
Happy to hear it.
