Six months after Musk bought Twitter, how goes the exodus to Mastodon?

My latest report for The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/apr/18/mastodon-users-twitter-elon-musk-social-media
thank you for writing the first piece on Mastodon and Fediverse for The Guardian that actually interviewed users, and reasonably well represented this here social network.

I have my own little pet peeves with it, but I'm sure you got plenty of criticism, so I'll limit myself to the positive. :mastowink:

Well done; looking forward to more of your writing!
@Wilfred Chan I encourage you to use the term #fediverse more often. If people hear/read only about mastodon everywhere (especially the titles!) they are usually not aware that there is a whole complete ecosystem in which there is room for different forms of publishing.
yeah. There is definitely a socio-cultural aspect to mastodon uptake. I'm a senior developer working on cloud. I suspect that your run of the mill aspirational "influencer" would not appreciate ioc.exchange. Im here at least daily. I don't care that many people I once followed on #birdsite are not here. What I care about is my daily experience. I am happy to pay a little each month for the privilege. A lot of the world still think socials are free. They aren't, it's just a question of who you want to support. I can't see myself ever going back.
“Mastodon’s diminutive size has turned off digital marketers, who have mostly shunned it and other Twitter alternatives as niche “distractions” that would be a waste of ad dollars."

Haha, not to mention... there aren't any ads.
