If someone nicked my wallet I could go to the police. But a payment provider can take nearly 1500 from me and all I can do is sit on the phone to their customer services listening to them tell me why they can't possibly help for at least another 48 hours. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE ARGH.
No advice please.

They keep telling me to upload new documents. I upload the new documents, they ask for different ones, I upload different ones, they send me random automated messages telling me one document isn't right but not *which* one. Some stuff needs to be notarised but they won't tell me *which* stuff. In the meantime, I have no money and I need to fucking pay for stuff.
*endless screaming*
Is there a way people can help with the "paying for stuff" bit that would bypass this system, if you're open to it?
@jscholes it's kind of you to ask but as a general rule I want to avoid that if poss. Patreon subs are always welcome (and hopefully next month I'll actually receive the money from them!) but I can't take any money off people directly.
That sucks - *solidarity fistbump*
the Spanish bank did this to our work account last year and Lord, I felt so stabby. Solidarity!
what do u need to pay for?
@tzen almost everything. Most of the money I make comes through here, and I use it to pay the people I work with
@Matt
i'm new here, can u explain how it works?
@neil yeah it's so annoying. If they told me what needed to be notarised I could at least do that but as it is I have nothing. They won't even bounce the money back to Patreon. Just keep sending me endless emails saying what I've given them is not acceptable.
barclay's shut down manchester hackspace's account with no notice. So we just didn't have tens of thousands of pounds for a few months. Was great.

Some hackspaces in the inter-hackspace chat are still dealing with the same situation https://www.theguardian.com/money/2023/dec/09/charities-barclays-frozen-bank-accounts

good grief this is always so horrifically frustrating, good luck mate

One day we'll all have coin mechs in our computers and a bloke who comes round on a bike to empty them out and this'll be easier
@ifixcoinops haha ohhh I love this idea. Also it'd be so satisfying when the coins came pouring out!
The PayPal trick... They hide behind "money laundering laws" while having atrocious customer service or info.

Welcome to the club...
~10 years ago, exceeded the deposit limit, which requires verification with an ID card. Blocked account, request for scan of ID. Scan sent, information comes: we close your account without giving any reason, the funds according to the regulations will be unlocked after 180 days. On the hotline is the same information: we do not have to explain anything. Everything in accordance with the regulations.
This is how the #thieves called #paypal work.
You have been warned...
