It's been interesting reading this #reddit thread. People are understandably upset about the prospect of #youtube showing ads during the pause screen. Lots of people threatening to leave YouTube, but at the end of the day, most won't.

There are alternatives. I've been running #tilvids for over 4 years now. We have great content creators like @thelinuxEXP sharing content. All people have to do is actually start voting with their eyeballs...

It would help you a lot if you had addons or extensions for various devices or software. For example I rarely watch YouTube on my desktop computer and never on my phone (I'm not a teenager) but I do watch it quite a bit on my media center PC using the YouTube addon in Kodi. To the best of my knowledge there is no equivalent TILvids addon (if I am wrong then that probably means no one is talking about it). If you do decide to make an addon please try to make it as quick and painless as possible to sign in or sign up (if that's a requirement, which it really shouldn't be) because the more complicated it is, the fewer people will go through the process.

As Greta’s politics have grown and evolved, they reached a point where they now make billionaire media owners, milquetoast executives of major non-profits, and more than a few politicians a little uncomfortable. All she’s done is follow the science, but over time the science has led her to see that the climate crisis doesn’t exist in a vacuum. There are massive monetary incentives to destroy the planet in this capitalist system.

ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, and BP made over $100 billion in profits in 2023 alone. In following the science, Greta had to start examining the capitalist system if she wanted to get down to the root of the climate crisis.

But Greta kept going. When she published The Climate Book in 2022, the then 19-year-old activist had some words for the entire system we live under today:

"We are never going back to normal again because ‘normal’ was already a crisis. What we refer to as normal is an extreme system built on the exploitation of people and the planet. It is a system defined by colonialism, imperialism, oppression and genocide by the Global North to accumulate wealth that still shapes our current world order.”

That was two years ago, and it’s no surprise she hasn’t been given the spotlight nearly as often since. In fact, in the wake of that book launch, she’s been the subject of countless hit pieces, and her Palestine solidarity activism has been denigrated as well.

Greta went from a cute kid saying that climate change is bad to a young adult rightly charging global systems with not only fueling the climate crisis but also being oppressive and grossly harmful to life in numerous other ways. And, perhaps most importantly, she sees these systems as interconnected and knows that radical change is necessary for the future of life on this planet.

The creator of an open source project that scraped the internet to determine the ever-changing popularity of different words in human language usage says that they are sunsetting the project because generative Al spam has poisoned the internet to a level where the project no longer has any utility. Wordfreq is a program that tracked the ever-changing ways people used more than 40 different languages by analyzing millions of sources across Wikipedia, movie and TV subtitles, news articles, books, websites, Twitter, and Reddit. The system could be used to analyze changing language habits as slang and popular culture changed and language evolved, and was a resource for academics who study such things. In a note on the project's GitHub, creator Robyn Speer wrote that the project “will not be updated anymore.” "Generative Al has polluted the data,” she wrote. “l don't think anyone has reliable information about post-2021 language usage by humans.”

👀 no, bardzo ciekawe, chciałbym zobaczyć jak lodz_pl z całym przemysłem pompowania narracji Zdanowskiej idzie na dno. To jest taki kombinat gazetka, portal, profile FB, pompowanie narracji lajkami i SEO heist czyli przejmowanie większości wyników w SERP GOOGLE, że jakoś nie chce mi się wierzyć, że to zniknie albo nie będzie pod kontrolą "rodziny" czy polityków. Jakby ktoś miał wątpliwości po co robi się z dupy artykuły o zbieraniu grzybów i np. podatkach na takich portalach, to jest to właśnie technika SEO HEIST zbiera się ruch organiczny (który normalnie był realizowany w tradycyjnych mediach), ale oczywiście jest też płatny. Finalnie w Łodzi nie ma innego źródła informacji niż lodz_pl czy to o wydarzeniach, remontach albo kulturze. Jest to jeden wielki festiwal sukcesów, a Łódź przedstawiana jest jako disneyland dla turystów... oczywiście wszystko dzięki doskonałej Prezydent i lokalnym politykom.

After checking about:config, "Hide weather on New Tab" sets the config value "browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.feeds.showWeather" to "false", but leaves "browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.feeds.weatherfeed" as the default of "true". So, my suspicion was correct, #Firefox is still sending your location off every 30 minutes to get the weather in the background by default even if you disable this new widget: https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/components/newtab/lib/WeatherFeed.sys.mjs #infosec #privacy

I think "constantly broadcast my location to a 3rd party by default and don't tell me about it or what's happening with that data and then keep doing it when I think I've disabled it" is pretty obviously a terrible privacy default

I dunno if it's documented anywhere and I'm not a fan of the widget, but according to someone on the Mozilla alumni Slack server it sends location data through a proxy such that your location is never tied to your IP address or any other info before AccuWeather sees it.

I really wish they put that on the settings for it, instead of just... not mentioning it. Ugh.

We środę ruszył proces o naruszenie praw autorskich, wytoczony przez Newag hakerom z Dragon Sector i spółce SPS.

Od grudnia Newag mało subtelnie insynuował, że eksperci z Dragon Sector sami mogli dodać funkcje blokujące w oprogramowaniu pociągów (nie, nie mogli).

Ale w pozwie przyznaje, że nie zmieniali oni oprogramowania w pociągach.

Skąd ta zmiana frontu? Próba udawania, że precedensowy wyrok C-13/20 nie ma zastosowania.

In the past there where definitely bugs that only affected windows or certain Linux distributions. For example on Linux mint I often had some problems that only occurred there or with the flatpak or .deb Version.

So maybe they experienced some of this?

In general kdenlive definitely weren't the most stable software in the past. But in recent years it is getting much better.
