A large part of that strategy involves privatizing services that used to be (and should be) public.

Lemmy Development Update 2023-10-06
Here is our regular update that explains what we have been working on for the past two weeks. This should allow average users to keep up with development, without reading Github comments or knowing how to program.
We are slowly getting closer to the 0.19 release, although there is still a lot of work left. Client developers should read this post with information about breaking changes to update their projects.
@nutomic has closed over 100 issues, most of them duplicates, invalid or already resolved ones. He also made numerous pull requests to fix minor bugs and implement small enhancements. This includes a bug fix for federation of admin actions which was released as 0.18.5. He is also changing the way HTML escaping is handled to avoid broken texts.
@dessalines is working on redesigning the join-lemmy.org website, adding the apps and instances pages. Also worked on rewriting the Docker images to use Debian as base instead of Alpine. Additionally he is adding support for new backend features to lemmy-ui (scaled search and cursor-based pagination).
@SleeplessOne1917 has implemented support for new block instance feature, finished implementing the remote follow feature, and updated 2-Factor-Auth to account for a backend rework. He also implemented some bug fixes. He has also been working on adding authentication to lemmy-ui-leptos.
@dessalines and @nutomic are working full-time on Lemmy to integrate community contributions, fix bugs, optimize performance and much more. This work is funded exclusively through donations.

Jestem skonfundowany: przed chwilą pokazali w TV jak dziadek dzisiaj na jakimś spotkaniu wyborczym wyraźnie powiedział, że w referendum trzeba zagłosować 4 x TAK.

I have made the extremely difficult decision to resign from the Processing Foundation. I am absolutely heartbroken, and have not slept well for months.
Casey and I started the Foundation with Dan as a way to make the Processing project more sustainable. For years it had been just Casey and me, supporting thousands and thousands of users.
Back in 2017, I was diagnosed with cancer just weeks after my second child was born. I took a break from participating directly with the Board.
Last fall, with urging from Casey, who was planning to leave, I tried to return to an active role with the Board.
It was a strange experience; I was soon shocked to learn that the Foundation spent nearly $800,000 last year. $0 of that went to Processing 4.
This year, the proposed Foundation budget is around $1.2 million. But for Processing, there is budget for just two people: one developer, one community lead.
You know what that sounds like? The reason we started a Foundation in the first place. Two people is not enough for all of the Processing software projects that live at the processing.org domains, not just the original software, but also releases for Android, Python, Raspberry Pi, etc.
There have been two million downloads of even just the 4.0 releases, and there remains consistently about 100,000 unique users a month.
Two people is not enough to sustain the current community, but more importantly, not enough to move the project in new directions—more languages, platforms, devices; broadening the audience further.
We're very much back in the same place as when we started in 2001: coding is still too obtuse and oblique, and the only way to fix that is to reduce barriers that will make coding accessible to more people.
I have continued to work on the Processing software since resigning from the Foundation—since walking away only punishes our users—but it's really difficult. There's no future in this current structure.
From the outset, the project was always a 50-50 split between internal (software development) and external (the community, the documentation, examples, etc). The Foundation has lost all sense of balance.
It's a depressing outcome following the $10 million windfall of donations. It's just co-opting the work that I've done for 22 years: building the software and supporting the community; both in years past when it was an unknown project, or in more recent years when keeping things working wasn't always *fun*, but was still *important* for the community that relied on it.
The situation is especially difficult for me because it has been created by the people who most benefited from all that work I did, and from people I trusted as friends.
The Processing software and its community deserve better, and need a better home than the “Processing” Foundation.

PTZSR to nowo powstała organizacja blisko współpracująca z FEDERĄ – pierwsza otwarcie popierająca prawa kobiet organizacja założona przez ekspertów i ekspertki nauk medycznych. Razem z PTZSR i innymi organizacjami walczącymi o dostęp do aborcji w Polsce przygotowujemy dokument, który powinien zostać przedstawiony przez Ministerstwo Zdrowia.
Nasze wytyczne oparte będą o wyniki najnowszych badań, obowiązujące w innych krajach europejskich procedury i rekomendacje opieki okołoaborcyjnej wiodących światowych organizacji zajmujących się ochroną zdrowia. Nie pomoże już nic i nic się już nie zmieni! Kościół w Polsce i na całym cywilizowanym Świecie traci chętnych do kapłaństwa oraz wiernych. Wynika to z danych prezentowanych przez sam kościół. Religia, żeby świecić potrzebuje ciemności/ciemnoty ludzkich umysłów, a w Polsce jest coraz więcej ludzi wykształconych i racjonalnie myślących. Tym samym jest coraz mniej naiwnych i chętnych do wiary w kościelną bajkę. Ludzie zyskują świadomość tego, że kościół od wielu lat sprzedaje im przysłowiowy kit w postaci fałszywych nadziei na istnienie sprawiedliwego Boga i możliwości uzyskania życia po życiu w jakiejkolwiek formie. Wyraźnie przestają mieć ochotę na bezmyślne odgrywanie roli pajaca w kościelnym cyrku. Kościół jezusowy czyni zło od 2000 lat okłamując swoich wiernych i sprzedając im fałszywe nadzieje. Ponadto był on przyczyną wymordowania milionów ludzi, którzy byli jego przeciwnikami albo innowiercami, palenia na stosach heretyków i osób podejrzanych o czary. Żadne mydło nigdy nie zmyje z kościoła hańby i winy za przelanie ich krwi i męczeństwo - de facto w imię religijnej fikcji i walki o władzę nad narodami w celu pozyskania od nich bogactwa. W samej Polsce kościół posiada dzisiaj na własność 3% powierzchni naszego kraju, tj. ok. 10 tys. km kw. ( to jakby kwadrat o boku równym ok. 97 km! ) i jest trzecim co do wielkości posiadanych nieruchomości właścicielem ziemskim po Skarbie Państwa i PKP ( 7% ). We insiders — by which I mean anyone paying attention — know that the plan to mitigate the climate catastrophe with Net Zero by 2050 is complete bullshit. But maybe you’ve absorbed that knowledge without really understanding why. So let’s talk about it.
What does Net Zero actually mean? Net Zero is the point at which the CO2 burden in the atmosphere is no longer increasing. We’re still putting some up, but we’re also taking just as much out.
This definition immediately tips off two major problems.
The “still putting some up” part is a major issue because the fossil fuels industrial/political complex hears that and stops listening. The “still putting some up” part is their job, and somebody else can do the “take just as much out” part.
In other words, it's Business As Usual for fossil fuels, including continuing growth. Someone else can do the preserving-life-and-the-climate part.
The second obvious problem with Net Zero is the very idea of “taking just as much CO2 out of the atmosphere each year as the fossil fuel industry is adding to it each year.” We know of only two ways to reduce the CO2 load of the atmosphere. One is time. But CO2 stays in the atmosphere for thousands of years, so time is not on our side.
The other way to reduce CO2 is carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). Carbon is “captured” from the atmosphere using a chemical solvent that absorbs CO2, after which it can be buried in the ground where the CO2 will stay safely out of the atmosphere virtually forever.
CCS technology both does and does not exist.
CCS does exist in that there are many ingenious systems for doing it, including several pilot programs demonstrating direct air capture, the holy grail of CCS. Many fossil fuelled electricity generation plants have been removing CO2 from their smokestack emissions for decades. Unfortunately, much of the currently captured CO2 is being injected into played-out oil wells, forcing more of the remaining oil to be recoverable, to burn as fuel. Totally self-defeating, as far as reducing the CO2 load in the atmosphere.
But CCS also does NOT exist in terms of a significant contributor to Net Zero. They remove so little CO2 from the atmosphere, and at such a cost, as to make them completely impractical. To make a dent in carbon emissions, hundreds of thousands of CCS plants are needed, if not millions. The cost is prohibitive. Not to mention the carbon costs of manufacturing all those plants.
But surely CCS technology will improve over the next decade or two. Maybe someone will even find a miraculous breakthrough that will make it truly practical?
Sorry, but no. It’s not that there hasn’t been enough research into CCS. It has been heavily researched and the science is known. It’s actually some pretty simple chemistry. We can tweak around the efficiency edges, but there are no breakthroughs waiting in the wings to be discovered.
